Kasson, MN—Dodge County boys hockey went 3-3 on the weekend. Varsity ended up 1-2 losing to Mayo High School in the 3rd place game while JV won the Consolation Championship.
Varsity Update
The Wildcats scored four goals in the third period to beat New Richmond, WI 8-5 in the Thursday afternoon quarterfinal game. Gavin Giesler (So., KM) and Brody Lamb (So., Byron) scored two goals a piece to lead the Wildcats. Lamb’s second goal earned him KTTC Play of the Week honors as he pulled off a between the legs dangle to beat the New Richmond goalie.
In the Friday night semi-final game, section 1AA powerhouse Century ended up to be too much for the Wildcats to handle in a 4-1 loss. Brendon Wolesky (So., Byron) scored the lone goal at 8:42 of the second period assisted by Lamb and Jake Isaak (So., Byron).
Dodge County was outshot 40-16. Isaac Dale (So., Pine Island) was outstanding in goal as he made 36 saves on the night.
In the third place game, Dodge County lost a heart-breaker 3-2 to a scrappy Mayo team. In a penalty-filled game, Dodge County was only able to score 2 power play goals and found themselves killing penalties off for most of the second period. Isaak and Wolesky scored the power play goals for the Wildcats.
Dodge County outshot Mayo 12-3 in the third period. Dale stopped 17 of 20 shots in the game.
Next up Dodge County (7-4) travels to Waseca (5-4) On Thursday, January 2 for a 7:30 game against the Blue Jays.
JV Update
Dodge County JV won the Kiwanis Hockey Festival consolation game with a 7-2 victory over Fox Cities from Appleton, WI area. The Wildcats lost a tough first round game in a shootout to New Richmond, WI 4-3. On Friday, they followed that tough loss with a forfeit win over Winona whose goalie went down with an injury.
Next up JV takes on Red Wing on January 4 at 5 p.m. at Four Seasons Arena.
